In the background are the high-rise blocks in the former West Berlin. The Kiefholzstraße was part of the death strip and the apartments blocks could be seen from the East on S-Bahn trains between Baumschulenweg and Plänterwald. Some children in the East imagined that all West Berliners lived in these high-rises. The garden allotments were on either side of the Wall and apparently still are, according to allotment-owners who have experienced the enduring mutual prejudices.
